Popular Preaching

Have you been wondering what the people in church are listening to during the week? Well, wonder no more. Joel Osteen is the most popular pastor in America and he is not popular because people don't listen to him. On the contrary, people flock to their television by the hundreds of thousands and they fill auditoriums all over this country to experience An Evening with Joel. I had not listened to Osteen in quite some time, so I thought I would surf my way over to his ministry site and see what ol' Joel has been putting in the heads of some of our brothers and sisters, even some of the people in our church (if you have a church of any size and believe that none of your people are listening to Osteen, you are kidding yourself). So, in case you haven't checked in a while, here is a short list of sermons currently being aired by Joel Osteen:
I listened to the sermon Living At Your Ideal Weight. While Osteen made some very good practical points on eating right and eating healthy, he said nothing of the Bible or anything that remotely regarded a biblical text. These are the messages of the largest church and the most popular preacher in America. Listen and weep.

I wonder if he has one entitled "How to fill up your (worldly)churches (with non-believers)."
The success of his "ministry" can be attributed to the same things that have given Dr. Phil success. It is not the gospel.
If he were to preach a message from a biblical text, I wonder how many of his supporters he would lose.
May the Lord continue to bless us with ministers that preach the word!

AJ,

I hope you'll listen to sermon he taught last weekend (It'll be message #318 when it's posted online). I've got a printed preview available:

Very unfortunate, though I will go to greg's link and take a look when I have a moment.

Todd Wilken of Issues, Etc. radio show has reviewed many of Osteen's sermons. He's even had Joyce Meyer on for an actual interview. Very interesting.

Also, Steve Camp www.stevenjcamp.blogspot.com sent Osteen a letter after his appearance on Larry King live. He told Osteen about how unclear he was concerning who goes to heaven and the Gospel. Osteen basically said he appreciated the letter and asked for book recommendations that would help him clear up his theology.

Thanks my ATL neighbor,
Mark

Yeah it's really sad that the most popular preacher in America is Joel Osteen. I'm not saying this cause I'm a hater, but his teaching is not gospel. I also think that in light of the Larry King interview, all have seen just how much he lacks a theological backbone.
